Recommended Resources

If you're anything like me, you wished there was a one-stop shop of resources that you could use to upskill or learn more about certain topics. For me, I wish I could find a reputable website that included a bunch of different cybersecurity resources that I should be paying attention to for news.

Well, this is it! This is my repository of recommended resources for cybersecurity, and some other areas of my life that I'm interested in.

Cybersecurity

News Websites

  • The Register - Provides good coverage on tech news with a lot of security perspective.
  • TheHackerNews - Good place to find most up-to-date cybersecurity news. They typically cover major breaches, new CVEs, and updates on Nation States.

Newsletter

  • CTO at NCSC - An incredibly in-depth weekly newsletter that covers quite literally everything relating to cybersecurity. There is a strong focus on UK policies, however, it does also cover international updates.
  • tl;dr sec - A newsletter written by the head of security research in Semgrep. Similarly to the CTO at NCSC newsletter, goes into great detail on current cybersecurity news from many different angles. There are also many different opinion pieces written, so if you're looking for more than just news, this is a good place to go.
  • Phil Venables - A blog written by Google Cloud's CISO, gives great insight into how to lead a cybersecurity team, and a lot of wisdom and practical opinion pieces that are based on facts.

Entertainment

  • Darknet Diaries - Imagine a murder mystery podcast, but instead of it looking into unsolved/solved murders, it's looking into unsolved/solved incidents in the security world. If that sounds interesting, darknet diaries might be up your alley.

Technology

  • ByteByteGo - An incredible resource that has helped me build my knowledge on A LOT of different topics in the technology market. If you're looking to get a deeper understanding in System Design, this is the place to go.
  • Fireship - A funny entertaining Youtube Channel that covers the most pressing technology news in less than 5 minutes. It doesn't cover everything, but it definitely covers the most popular topics.
  • ThePrimeTime - Software Developer gone Streamer, ThePrimeTime is someone with years of industry experience who goes into current problems in many tech areas and discusses it from a technical and industry perspective.

Finance

  • Finimize - A quick daily newsletter of what has gone on in the finance world that can be read in just a couple of minutes.
  • Big A - Atrioc is a streamer with probably the most knowledge on the economy and finance than anyone I have seen. He creates interesting and bitesized videos on current affairs, specifically in the economy and finance, and has been a big reason as to why I have such a vast understanding of the economy.
  • Damien Talks Money - A British YouTuber that makes real and practical financial guides. It's not all stocks, but also includes topics on the economy, insurance, and retirement.
  • Steve Eisman - The very man from the big short, Steve Eisman has made a career in analysing the economy and has become very rich from it. He runs a YouTube channel that covers the most pressing topics in the economy. My favourite episodes are the ones where he covers earnings for most big companies for that week, alongside a high-level brief of what is going on in the economy.
  • stockmktnewz - An X and Instagram account that covers the most important stock market news. Simple to consume and insightful at times.

General

  • Diary of a CEO - Steven Bartlett in his incredibly famous podcast covers a wide range of topics, including Technology, Finance, Business, Health, and Self-Help. Incredibly good podcast to have in your tool box if you are looking for coverage.
  • Lex Friedman - Similar to Diary of a CEO
  • Chris Williamson - Similar to Diary of a CEO
  • Lemonade Stand

Self-Help

  • James Clear - Author of Atomic Habits, one of the best self-help books in the world, has a great newsletter full of wisdom and quotes that get you thinking with the goal of making you wiser every week.
  • Ali Abdaal - Former Doctor, gone productivity guru, Ali is a great place to start if you are looking to opitimise your life and learn a lot of lessons.
  • Daniel Pink

Gaming

  • What Culture Podcast - If you like games, What Culture Podcast is a great place to stay up-to-date with all of that.

Faith

  • George Janko - Faith X Comedy. George Janko invites a wide variety of guests to talk all about Faith. Sprinkled with bits of humour, if you are interested in learning more about Christianity, this is a good place to go.
  • Impact Ministries - An animation channel that works to produce easy to understand short videos on certain topics in Christianity.
