The Jynxzi Effect

How game developers and publishers could popularise their games by catering to content creators.

The gaming industry is currently in uncharted territory. For the first time, the incumbents are being threatened by cheaper, high-quality, and more innovative games than they can produce. What's more, these games are made at a fraction of the cost that AAA studios pay to develop their games.

As of 2024, Indie developers accounted for 99% of video games released on Steam, 58% of units sold, and 48% of revenue. The average price of an AAA game as of 2024 was $59.99 compared to $19.99 for its indie counterparts.

Furthermore, we are seeing unprecedented levels of layoffs in the industry, with nearly one-third of the entire video game industry being laid off in the past two years.

However, given the state of the gaming industry, both AAA and Indie Developers face problems. AAA developers struggle to grow and hold communities such that they return a profit on the games they developed.

Concord, a game published by Sony, is a perfect example of this. With $400 million dollars spent on development, after underperforming in sales, reviews and community expectations, the game was shut down 1 year after its release.

Indie Developers, however, face a different issue. They struggle to attract customers.

As mentioned above, 99% of released games were indie; however, they accounted for only 58% of purchases, meaning many indie games never garner any attention.

To be clear, the gaming industry has never been better for game consumers. There is plenty of choice at varied price ranges. But these come at the cost to developers, who are being tested right now.

However, a glimmer of hope emerges that could address both of these issues: the Jynxzi Effect.

Who is Jynxzi and What is the Jynxzi Effect?

Jynxzi is one of the newer content creators on the block. He's an interesting character to say the least, no doubt, catering to a younger audience. He is charismatic, and with that, has built a cult-like following.

He gained his popularity in early 2023 by being a Rainbow Six Siege streamer, but his high-energy reactions and gameplay became incredibly popular, especially in his challenge series, where he faced many different subscribers in Rainbow Six Siege.

The Jynxzi Effect can be seen not long after he gained his popularity. In fact, he has arguably revived what a declining community in the Rainbow Six Siege Game.

The Jynxzi Effect In Action

Below are some of the more popular examples of the Jynxzi Effect in action.

Rainbow Six Siege, once one of the most played games, began to become more unpopular thanks to a multitude of reasons such as increased cheating, character sprawl, stale gameplay and increasingly lower quality updates.

Player count on Steam for Rainbow Six Siege

Since 2020, the game has been on a steady decline in popularity. Between 2020 and 2021, it was continuously scoring 24-hour peaks of 100,000 players every month, hitting a peak of nearly 200,000 in 3 months. However, around October 2021, this changed, and it has struggled to maintain a peak player count of greater than 70,000 per day.

Also, to give some context, COVID was not the reason for the consistently high player count in 2020 and 2021. It may have elevated it slightly, but between 2018 and 2020, it was still reaching averages of 100,000 per day.

However, thanks to Jynxzi's charisma and ability to inspire people to want to play Rainbow Six Siege, he was able to stop its bleed and even help it reach all-time highs in more recent years.

However, although Jynxzi's ability to get people onto games is incredibly powerful, sustainability is only possible if the game is good.

Clash Royale is another example of where just Jynxzi playing the game caused a massive uptick in its player base.

Clash Royale Monthly Player Trends

Jynxzi began consistently playing Clash Royale in May 2025, and within a few months, the game tripled in size. However, around December 2025, Jynxzi began reducing his playtime on Clash Royale, and it has since returned to its normal player count.

Its drop in popularity has not been helped by the fact that the Clash Royale team attempted to take full responsibility for the resurgence in popularity, leading to a feud between Supercell (the owners of Clash Royale) and Jynxzi in February.

A final example where the Jynxzi Effect has been felt is for an incredibly old game, Geometry Dash. On Steam, Geometry Dash has pretty much consistently averaged a peak of 12,000 players. However, thanks to Jynxzi in October 2025, the game received a massive uptick in popularity, with it now averaging a peak of 84,000 per day.

Geometry Dash Monthly Player Count

Unlike the previous examples, this has remained high, even after the Jynxzi stopped playing it. A good example of how good games can retain a player base even after the hype has died down.

There are other examples where Jynxzi has caused a massive surge in popularity for games such as Chess, Rocket League, and Getting Over It.

Takeaways For Game Developers and Publishers

The gaming industry has never had so many choices, and this will not change. Advertising yields have been decreasing because of this. Organisations need to start looking at different ways of driving traffic. This is one technique they should look into.

Three things are important to highlight:

  1. Charismatic content creators are powerful drivers of player engagement.
Game developers should make it possible to have a way of allowing engagement with content creators in real-time, but also after videos are made. This could look like making community building possible within a game, such as the ability to make a clan, or by rewarding players who have been brought in by content creators.
  2. Games that are NOT good will NOT have sustained growth.
Rainbow Six Siege is a good example of this. The game is not in a good place, and no matter how much Jynxzi can influence people to play in short, sporadic moments, ultimately, that growth is not long-term. Geometry Dash is a good game, and has retained the unprecedented player level.
  3. Game developers must be respectful and not ignorant.
Supercell is an example of an organisation that took for granted what Jynxzi had done for them. As a result, the community felt betrayed and began leaving in mass.

Sudden growth must be met with a high-quality game for it to be sustained. The Jynxzi Effect is not a substitute, but an amplifier.
